🧪 Pooling IUI
“Optimizing the Available Sperm for Better IUI Planning”
What is Pooling IUI?
Pooling IUI is a specialized approach in which more than one semen sample may be combined (“pooled”) and processed, when considered appropriate by the fertility team.
The aim is to optimize the available sperm and obtain a suitable concentration of progressively motile sperm for use in an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) cycle.
Pooling is considered only after evaluating the semen parameters, clinical history and the overall fertility plan.
🔬 How is Pooling IUI Done?
Semen Sample(s) → Pooling, if indicated → Laboratory Processing → Selection of Motile Sperm → Washing → IUI Procedure
The embryology team processes the sample(s) according to established laboratory protocols before the prepared sperm is used for insemination.
✨ Why May Pooling Be Considered?
*Helps optimize the available sperm from more than one sample
*May be considered when sperm parameters vary between samples
*Allows laboratory processing and selection of progressively motile sperm
*May help achieve a suitable sample for IUI in selected cases
*Provides an individualized approach to sperm preparation
*Supports coordinated fertility treatment planning
👨👩👧 Who May Benefit?
Pooling IUI may be considered in selected patients with:
*Low sperm count
*Reduced sperm motility
*Low total motile sperm count
*Variable semen parameters between collections
*Difficulty obtaining an adequate sample from a single collection
*Selected cases of male-factor infertility
*IUI cycles where the fertility specialist feels pooling may be appropriate
The decision to use pooling depends on individual semen analysis, clinical assessment, laboratory findings and the overall fertility treatment plan.

🧪 Embryology & Laboratory Team
Our trained embryology team plays an important role in Pooling IUI by:
*Handling and identifying semen samples according to laboratory protocols
*Assessing sperm concentration and motility
*Processing and preparing the pooled sample, when indicated
*Selecting the appropriate motile sperm fraction
*Maintaining proper sample identification, traceability and quality-control procedures
🤝 Coordinated Fertility Care
Fertility Specialist + Embryology Team + Nursing/Clinical Team + Patient
Working together helps ensure appropriate timing, careful sample handling, standardized processing and coordinated IUI care.
