🧬 PICSI (Physiological ICSI)

“Selecting the Right Sperm for a Better Start”

What is PICSI?

PICSI (Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced sperm-selection technique used alongside ICSI.

In PICSI, sperm are selected based on their ability to bind to hyaluronic acid (HA). This provides the embryology team with an additional method of identifying mature sperm for consideration during the ICSI procedure.

The selected sperm is then used for injection into the egg as part of the ICSI process.

✨ Why is PICSI Used?

*Helps identify mature sperm based on hyaluronic-acid binding
*Provides an additional method of sperm selection before ICSI
*May be considered in selected cases of male-factor infertility
*Can be useful when sperm quality or maturity is a concern
*Supports a more structured and individualized ICSI treatment approach
*Helps the embryology team make sperm-selection decisions using a physiological characteristic

🔬 How Does PICSI Support ICSI?

Semen Sample → Sperm Selection Using Hyaluronic Acid → Selection of Suitable Sperm → ICSI

PICSI is performed by the embryology team under established laboratory protocols and is used when considered appropriate for the individual treatment plan.

👨‍👩‍👧 Who May Be Considered for PICSI?

PICSI may be considered in selected fertility treatment cycles, particularly where there are concerns regarding:

*Male-factor infertility
*Poor or reduced sperm quality
*Previous unsuccessful fertilization
*Previous IVF/ICSI treatment concerns
*Sperm maturity or selection
*PICSI is not required for every ICSI cycle. Your fertility specialist and embryology team will determine whether it may be *appropriate based on the individual clinical and laboratory findings.
