🧬 PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy)
“Better Embryo Selection for a Healthier Tomorrow”
What is PGT-A?
PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) is a genetic testing technique performed on embryos created through IVF. It helps assess whether an embryo has the expected number of chromosomes.
PGT-A can provide additional information about the chromosomal status of embryos, helping the fertility team make informed decisions when planning embryo transfer.
🔬 How Does PGT-A Work?
During an IVF cycle, embryos are developed in the laboratory until the appropriate stage. A small number of cells are carefully biopsied from the embryo and sent for genetic testing.
IVF → Embryo Development → Embryo Biopsy → Genetic Testing → Results → Embryo Selection & Transfer Planning
✨ Why is PGT-A Used?
*Helps identify embryos with chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidy)
*Provides additional information for embryo selection
*May help reduce the chance of transferring an embryo with certain chromosome abnormalities
*May be particularly useful in selected IVF cases based on individual clinical factors
*Supports a more individualized approach to embryo-transfer planning
👨👩👧 Who May Be Considered for PGT-A?
PGT-A may be considered in selected IVF patients, particularly depending on:
*Advanced maternal age
*Previous IVF cycles with repeated implantation failure
*Recurrent pregnancy loss in selected cases
*Previous pregnancy or embryo affected by chromosomal abnormality
*Certain situations where the fertility specialist recommends additional embryo assessment
*PGT-A is not necessary for every IVF cycle. Your fertility specialist will discuss whether it may be appropriate based on your *individual medical and reproductive history.
👩⚕️ Doctor-Led Fertility Care
Dr. Aishwarya Parthasarathy
Consultant Fertility Specialist & Gynaecologist
MD (OBG), DNB (OBG), FNB (RM), MRCOG (UK)
Dr. Aishwarya provides individualized fertility assessment and guides couples through appropriate investigations, IVF treatment planning and advanced reproductive technologies, including PGT-A when indicated.
🧬 Embryology & Genetic Testing Team
PGT-A involves coordinated care between the fertility specialist, embryology laboratory and genetic testing laboratory. Embryos are carefully handled and biopsied according to established laboratory protocols, with genetic testing performed by the appropriate specialized laboratory.
